Can the increase in child support be modified retroactively?
The court has wide discretion here but the increase (and probably a decrease) can be ordered retroactively back to the date that the modification was served on the respondent or when the respondent appears in the case. This is entirely in the court’s discretion. Also, child support can only be modified only by fling the appropriate motion in the court of continuing jurisdiction. Parents do not have the authority to reduce or increase child support without express court approval.
