FAQ's

How is the person that serves as the mediator chosen?

Family Law Attorney, Family Law and DivorceNormally, the parties agree on a mediator relying on their attorney’s recommendation.  The court will appoint a mediator if the parties cannot agree.  The person chosen must have completed specialized training both as a mediator and in family law to be qualified as a mediator.  Some counties have Dispute Resolution Centers that offer mediations at rates below those charged by private mediators but some of these mediators are not attorneys which may be problematical.
