How is a suit to adjudicate parentage started?

A petition to adjudicate parentage is filed, usually in the county where the mother and child reside.  The alleged father must be served with citation and a copy of the petition just as in any other lawsuit.  He will be ordered to appear in court on a certain date and time for a hearing so that the judge can make orders for genetic testing unless parentage is admitted.
