Does the person reporting suspected abuse have any liability?
A person acting in good faith that reports abuse or assists in the investigation of alleged child abuse or neglect or who testifies or participates in a judicial proceeding is immune from civil or criminal liability. However, it is a felony to knowingly and with intent to deceive, make a false report. If the false report is made by a person in connection with a suit affecting the parent-child relationship, this is grounds for modifying that person’s possession or access to a child. The law provides for the payment of attorney’s fees and a fine of $1000.00 in such a case.
