What are the consequences of violating a protective order?
The person against whom the order is issued is liable for contempt of court just as with any other order. However, if the respondent violates the order by, for example, threatening, harassing, committing further family violence or coming to the residence or business of the protected person, they are subject to immediate arrest. This is the advantage of a protective order over a restraining order.
